Hello and good day to you! I've been sifting through your work and thought a critique might be of appreciation to you.
This image is, I believe, very striking and unique; it caught my eye from the thumb because of its vibrant and out of the ordinary colours and hues. The colour scheme in compliance with the subject matter conveys a rather lovely nostalgic mood which I feel is tainted slightly with a bit of longing. The focal points of the solitary lighthouse-like building and lonesome tree on the right being separated by a body of water build upon this image and add a story to it, which will almost definitely vary greatly between viewers due to subjectivity.
I must commend you on your post processing for this piece; the infrared colour scheme is definitely not something you see every day, which demonstrates fantastic and original vision. The black boarders contribute to the piece by adding cinematic sort of feeling, which I feel compliments it very well. Everything within the frame is very sharp and well exposed, I give you credit for that!
The major technical area I feel you could improve on for this piece however is its composition. Whilst the composition is still fine generally, I feel that if you were to compose the image a little differently it would prove to be the cherry on top of the cake and make the already awed viewers of the piece fall into an awe that's just the little deeper. I believe this could be achieved by quite simply applying the rule of thirds to the piece; zooming out a small bit and panning to the right to allow the lighthouse to fall directly in the borderline between the left and middle third and the tree to fall dead centre in the right third. Zooming out a little would allow for the entire tree to fit snugly within the frame whilst still keeping the lower horizontal third directly on the horizon line. If this was your intention then please ignore the above and forgive me for mentioning it!
Overall I must say you did a very good job with this piece and I tip my hat to you for it! It's a beautiful scene and I would very much love to shoot there myself some day. Keep doing what you're doing with your unique style, it's definitely eye catching and fantastic!
So, to summarise what I feel are the strengths and areas of improvement of the image:
Strengths: Very unique and original Eye catching due to its unusual and enchanting colour scheme Technically sound; fantastic post processing, very sharp, perfectly exposed, complimenting cinematic styled boarders, etc. Interesting and aesthetically appealing subject matter
Areas of improvement: Composition can be improved through framing and adjusting to fit the rule of thirds Distracting leaves to the left of the image take slightly from the visual interest on the right side of the image.
I hope you have a fantastic day and I look forward to see what else you bring forward to show us Deviants!
absolutely beautiful picture, and well deserving of its DD! might I say I really love the colors here~ the pinks and whites bring a light and gentle feeling to the work, but the contrasting hues of the water and sky above the clouds really bring out the depth. I could just stare into it for hours... it's so amazing! even just looking at it gives me a sense of calm... almost like slipping into a dream. I totally love it!
I love those trees, the stillness of the place makes it wonderful. I really want to be there and throw a stone into the water, get on that viewpoint and hear only the sound of wind. wonderful
