It will happen soon,

Time flies, not only when you are having fun, it just does all the time.

Life is short, so live it, enjoy the Spring, the May, the Week, the Day!

Living with Parkinson's Disease - Year 2

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 7, 2013, 5:08 AM
Today marks the two year anniversary of my Parkinson's Disease diagnosis. While the first year was mostly spent with coming to terms that I have Parkinson's, the recent year was focused on gaining stability and being more social about it.

Stability has been mostly achieved, when I discount days where "uncommon" activities, like flight preparations or large family events, cause me to have a harder time functioning with limited symptoms showing. An unchanged level of medication for this year keeps me able to work at almost normal intensity, which, if you know me, is rather high. The main problem for me is the very limited usability of my right hand, making handwriting extremely hard and exhausting and typing on the computer more of a left-hand-only activity. Fortunately, my work involves a lot of thinking as well, 100 intelligent words are worth more than 1000 blah-blahs.

Stability, on the other hand, has also been reached by cutting back on certain activities, which saddens me quite a bit. Photography has taken a backseat, for months I have neither taken nor published any new works, with very few exceptions. And for about half a year, if not more, my participation in various social sites was close to nil. I also often worry about the future, mostly concerning questions like "how will I progress?" and "how many good [relative] years do I have left?" Any day on which I am even only slightly off my normal level of symptoms causes a mild panic and quite a bit of useless worries and stress.

Yet, during the last year I also managed to improve and not only maintain the status quo. I am working out now, an activity that I never liked much, and I see a Physical Therapist once a month for extra credit. This certainly has made it possible for me to regain some of the strength that I had lost prior, even some that I never had before.

On the same note, improvements on a mental level have also been made. A major factor here has been that I dared to open up to other Parkinson's Disease sufferers, or "Parkies" as we refer to each other affectionately. This was made possible when I met a person who happens to run a group for Early (or Young) Onset Parkinson's Disease victims [YOPD] on Facebook and invited me to join. There I met a whole variety of people, some as young as 20something, and some much worse off than I. Learning from these fellow Parkies that I am not alone, not even in my darkest thoughts, is the biggest improvement to date, they truly understand me like no non-suffer can (although some, like my daughter, come pretty close).

My activity in this group has also other positive side effects; I can feel the urge to rekindle my participation in other social sites. If it weren't for the darn typing and a boatload of work [at work] I already would be fully engaged again! A loooong Winter here in the New York area is now finally also slowly coming to an end, hopefully giving way to some good opportunities for photo shoots. Oh, and speaking of New York, seems like I will meet thousands of Parkies when my family and I will participate in this year's Parkinson's Unity Walk in beautiful Central Park in Manhattan.

With that said, I hope to have many more years of writing about my anniversaries, maybe one of them will finally mention a cure and reset my counter to "year one after Parkinson's!" I keep my fingers crossed!

In The Groove

Journal Entry: Mon Nov 19, 2012, 2:29 AM
Hello my dear DA friends!

As you may have noticed, my DA participation is not quite yet back to normal, but I am working on it. It is harder than I thought to get back in the groove of things, catching up with tasks that needed to get done in real life take longer than expected. At least I did manage to post a photo today!

Also, I am very touched by all your well wishes and concerns regarding my being, it is nice to know that I am in your thoughts! Thank you so much!!!

Almost Back To Normal

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 11, 2012, 3:30 PM
Hello Everybody,

I hope you all are doing well and no harm has come to you within the last two weeks. That's about the time when I went dark, literally, as now 13 days ago we lost power thanks to Hurricane Sandy. To make a loooooong story short, we had no power here for 10 days and after 4 days with temperatures reaching a high of 46F (8C) and nightly lows in the 20s (-4C) we evacuated to New York and crashed for a week at my sister-in-law's apartment and slept on their living room couch.

Last Thursday I made my way back home to New Jersey and spent my time since with doing NOTHING! My energy was drained, also in part because I missed a couple of days at work and had to catch up quickly. So now, 13 days after this mess began, I hope to be back to normal or close to it as we still have serious problems up here in the Tri-State area. No trains are running locally so buses are overfilled and delayed, gas rationing has been just lifted, and thousands are still without power and have lost sooooo much!

As a result, it may take me a little to get back in the swing of things here at dA; I did not read through all the comments and notes that I have received in the meantime as I would never catch up otherwise. So if you noted me or left me a comment, please do so again if it was something important! Otherwise, thanks for the input!!!

I hope you all fared better, you were in my thoughts,

Bracing For Impact

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 28, 2012, 6:02 AM
Sorry, my dear friends, but I don't have a lot of time,

we are currently getting ready for Hurricane Sandy, and it seems to be a major disaster in the makings.

Talk to you after we are getting back on track,

Some Thanks and New Avatar Quest

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 22, 2012, 2:18 AM

Once again I would like to express my thanks for all the kind comments, all the faves, all the new watchers, and the overall heartwarming friendliness with which you spoil me day in day out and for my latest Daily Deviation in particular.

Thanks also for your constructive comments with regards to the Top 120 DA listings, and even more thanks to all who voted or stated their opinion on my current quest to find me a new DA avatar.

As one may be better than the other when viewed in the final DA size (50px by 50px), I prepared a new poll with the top 3 finishers and ask you to pick your favorite from the image below (please select number 1, 2, or 3 in Poll, do not comment in this journal if you want your selection to count).

Oh Happy Day!

Journal Entry: Fri Oct 19, 2012, 2:43 AM
So, you wake up in the morning and the first thing that you realize is that you probably have a broken toe, received when you hit your foot on the leg of the couch the night before. Ouch!

Can this get any worse? Sure! Can this get any better? Absolutely, and so it did!!!

Yep, with uttermost enjoyment did I find out that I received a DD (Daily Deviation) for the work below, and all pain was blown away (for a while).

I want to express my gratitude to
for suggesting the work, and send 1000 thank you's to
for hosting the work

And of course I want to thank all of you for being here with me, your support, your comments, your favs, and all the other good things you do!!!!!

What Determines The Top Deviations Listing?

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 14, 2012, 7:13 AM
Hi there, my fellow Deviants, how are you doing today? I have a few questions for you, maybe someone has some answers:

Have you recently looked at the the Popular 24h and 8h listings on here and if so then did you notice some changes as to what works are occupying these top spots? No, I don't mean the new format and design, but the actual deviations?

I personally believe that the 8h listing is pretty much as it always was, but the 24h listing seems to evaluate tops completely different, with heavily favoring none-photographic categories (and fringe photographic categories).

To give you an example, the deviation I posted last Tuesday received over 750 favs (and 80 comments plus loads of group acceptances and invites) within the first 8h to maintain a spot in the top 4, but as soon as the 8h were up it disappeared from the top 120, while easily having better stats than most deviations that were in the top 24.

And I noticed that this is not only concerning my photographs, but works from awesome photographers alike. So I begin to wonder if this is an indication that deviantArt is shifting its focus into the other categories! If so then that is fine, but probably not for me.

Any comment?

Frames N Thanks

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 7, 2012, 5:11 AM
Frames Part II

Thank you all for your input on my last Journal and Poll with regards to using frames on the works displayed here on DA and my works in particular. I was somewhat surprised that the opinions were rather wide spread, comes to show that we are a group of very diversified individuals!

I will post some of my new works with and some others without frames, keep me posted what you think about them.

A Big Thank You!

A huge thank you goes out to all the deviants who faved and/or commented on my IR work from last Monday, it is to date my overall second most liked deviation and the only one which achieved 2000++ favorites in less than 36 hours!

Thank you also to all the new watchers, I hope I can continue to show you interesting works!

I Have Been Framed

Journal Entry: Sun Sep 30, 2012, 7:29 AM
No, not like that, but I am seriously considering posting new shots without my typical frames. I know, I know, some of you told me that I should not use frames a long time ago, but others did not.

So, I think now is the right time for change, but of course I wonder what you all think about it! Is the frame even in your vision when you look at my photography? And if so, does it bother you? And if so, then why? Haha, I know, many questions!

OK, so look forward to a period of mix between framed an un-framed works before we go one way or the other exclusively.

Thanks for being here,

When Summer Winds Fade ...

Journal Entry: Sun Sep 16, 2012, 7:59 AM
... then thoughts turn to Fall, leaves, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and yes, Christmas!

Hi there, my dearest DA friends, how are you doing these days? Or maybe I should ask "Are you ready for Fall?" On one hand, I am ready as the Summer was long enough, on the other hand I cannot imagine that before we know it the leaves will be off the trees. Too fast, haha.

In none-DA related news, I am very disappointing that the Dawnguard DLC for Skyrim is probably not coming for the PS3. Do you know what I am talking about? Or how about this: What do you think about the Raven Strike DLC for GRFS? I like it, but I suck in the Multiplayer game mode (for GRFS itself)! The fun one has with game consoles.

A big hug to all of you,

Thanks for being here,

DA Infrared Category

Journal Entry: Mon Aug 20, 2012, 2:06 AM
Do you like the idea?

If you like infrared photography then you most certainly enjoy to see its resulting artworks here at DA. Currently, a push is being made to give it its own Category, an effort that I unquestionably support. How about you?

And just because of this, and because I like them, here are some of my favorite IR panoramas from my gallery, including my latest work:

Have fun, and thank you so much for being here,

Just Wondering

Journal Entry: Sun Aug 5, 2012, 5:47 AM
The Arts And More

Hello my DA friends! As you may know, I often wonder about things, photography related and beyond. As I am listening to music while I am typing this (btw., Deadmou5 is awesome), another "wondering" came up:

Do artists have senses for the arts in general, or are they often limited to one "branch" only? I mean, would Mozart also have been a good painter, or could Rembrandt have written a symphony? And, even if that were not the case, would artists at least be more attuned to the virtues of art in general, like could it be that the Rolling Stones have a deeper appreciation of the works of Leonardo Da Vinci than the average person?

I sure think so, what do you think? Think about yourself, do you feel attuned with all branches of the arts?

Ingo's Travels

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 29, 2012, 5:15 AM
Absent, but not gone!

Hi there, my dear DA friends. I hope you still remember me, as I was not on here in a few weeks. Well, like most people do in the Summer time, I went on vacation and only got back a few days ago.

I did take quite a few photos on my trip, this time also using my iPhone's camera in addition to my standard Canon and infrared Sony. I hope you will enjoy the results as much as I do, I will post them over the next few weeks as I for sure will need some time for processing them all.

And for the reason mentioned above, I am only now able to welcome new watchers, plus all the nice folks who commented on my works and/or faved them, thanks a lot!

Oh, and speaking of vacation, is DA a little slow these days because all people are out shooting vacation pictures?

Have a lovely day,

I NEED ...

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 1, 2012, 5:04 AM

Hello everybody, and no worries, I don't talk about your usual subjects! Instead, I wonder what day-to-day activities can be considered addictions, like the need for caffeine, TV, etc.

I think it sure is worthwhile to think about these things as well, even if it is just to remind us of our dependencies. So let me start a list and you can add to it, but once again this is not about your usually listed addictive entities, like smoking etc.:

* TV
* Video Games (PC and Console)
* Coffee and Tea
* Sodas (i.e. Coke)
* Money
* Approval
... your turn

* ~GodessFae adds:
Computers (tablets and smart phones as well)

I am looking forward to your input,

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 24, 2012, 9:22 AM
Hello everybody, I hope you all are doing well!

Today, my journal will be a little different, as I will only present a link to my personal blog. It is not very exciting, and has little to do with photography, but if you are curious and have some time, then check it out!

Thank You and Father's Day

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 17, 2012, 6:30 AM
Father's Day

Today, we celebrate Father's Day, which has a similar magnitude than Mother's Day, at least with regards to its character.

As I am actually from another country (Germany), I know that Father's Day over there has a different focus, namely males - fathers and non-fathers alike - are going out and and spend their time drinking beer.
Haha, I know, very German indeed!

Do you have a Father's Day in your country? What do you do on that day?

Thank You

I would like to express my gratitude to all the deviants who commented on and/or faved my recent work, I truly appreciate it! Also, many thanks to all the new Watchers! Here is the shot again:
